THE ROLE

The Manager, Business Development Content position is primarily responsible for developing comprehensive sales and business development content for the B2B Olympics business. The Manager is a self-starter who thinks outside the box to determine program design requirements, participate in the development of innovative, turnkey, and efficient concepts, and conduct research based on specific client needs, competitive landscape, and consumer and technology trends. The role is critical to the commercial success of the On Location Olympics organization and will work closely with Directors, other Managers, and Coordinators on the team as well as those across other On Location workstreams including but not limited to sales, marketing, Stakeholder services, and operations. This leader will play a key role in managing and developing materials for existing clients and new business opportunities and displays the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, anticipate business needs, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILTIES

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Authors, designs, and presents compelling proposals and materials via design tools such as Keynote and Microsoft Office for existing client accounts as well as new business development opportunities, while working collaboratively with the sales and marketing teams
  • Copy edits content to ensure a consistent “voice” throughout all written materials
  • Tailors standard content based on unique requests, specific to existing client and new business needs
  • Conceptualizes and curates new experience ideas that drive new business development, sales, and/or client management efforts. Identifies specific needs and expectations that encourage repeat business
  • Interface with sales, marketing, and/or creative teams to coordinate requests and approvals
  • Collaborates with the operations team to build event budgets during the ideation and curation process to ensure the proposed and sold experiences are financially sound
  • Supports the Director in crafting and executing RFI and RFPs from existing and potential clients
  • Researches, gathers, organizes, authors, edits, and produces written proposal materials; revises drafts including executive summaries, case studies, and conclusions
    o Assembles information including objectives and deliverables, implementation, processes, timelines, staffing needs, budgets, etc.
    o Coordinates design and layout in an organized and effective manner, including copywriting and graphics
  • Alongside other Managers with support from Coordinators, leads the development and review of:
    o Updates to and distribution of sales materials and/or templates
    o Best research, creative, and/or design practices
    o Archival of ideas into department database

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Team Management: one-on-one, performance management, team development, staff training, reinforcement of & accountability for processes, etc.
  • Develop, document, and implement specific procedures, systems, and strategy efficiencies
  • Drive focus on Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Regularly conduct, participate in, or provide feedback on team meetings, as needed, including but not limited to ideation sessions, post-event review meetings, process improvement meetings, etc.
  • Provide input on performance reviews, bonuses, and merit increases, as needed
  • Monthly expense and/or event budget reconciliations, as needed
  • Foster an environment for participation and engagement from team members and other workstreams
  • Maintain a customer-first approach by looking at the entire event ecosystem through the lens of the customer journey
  • Lead by example, model our core values, and set the pace for the rest of the team while inspiring creativity and innovation
  • Communicate expectations and establish clarity regarding job responsibility and task ownership; help the team prioritize, stay focused, and organized
  • Extensive collaboration and communication within the team and across workstreams
  • Situation analysis and decision making; identify, understand, and remove roadblocks
  • Manage key client (and/or guest) relationships, as needed

Travel:

International travel may be required throughout the year, including extended periods of remote work within local offices within host cities. Expected travel may range from 10-25% annually and 1-2 months of continuous travel during Olympic games.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Creative Writing, and/or Graphic Design, or equivalent experience required
  • Four or more years of related business experiences, preferably in a B2B role or within the travel and hospitality industry 
  • Proficiency in Keynote (Apple), Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Adobe (particularly InDesign and Photoshop)


Preferred Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A creative, innovative, and strategic thinker with excellent storytelling skills
  • Understanding the entertainment landscape including the business of sports, fashion, culinary, and other cultural verticals
  • Ability to develop skilled visual artistry to convey a client’s or On Location owned & operated events’ message
  • A proven record of accomplishment of strong personal effectiveness in which imaginative and distinctive leadership has been demonstrated
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills — a collaborative style and ability to communicate effectively at all levels with strong oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Balance of creativity / innovation to dream big with the realistic logistical expertise to get things done
  • Ability to use resources effectively and efficiently, can perform multiple tasks at once, and arrange information in a useful manner
  • Produce accurate work, even when under pressure, and check accuracy of information; thrives in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to set priorities, quickly zero-in on the "critical few" and put the "trivial many" aside, and to juggle numerous tasks and priorities while maintaining productive flow of work
  • Practices attentive and active listening, with flexibility and adaptability, in order to determine what drives results
  • Natural curiosity about the events / experience landscape
  • Continually strives for self-development and discovering better means of accomplishing both personal and professional goals
  • Demonstrates good follow-through on information and project status
  • Proficiency in Asana and Smartsheet is preferred, but not a must
  • Fluency in French and/or Italian is a plus but not required
